My tours are all zero carbon, but here are some other tips for reducing the environmental impact of your visit and all future travel:
- Use low carbon means of transport to get to your destination and once there: walking, cycling, train, bus etc. rather than flying and driving.
- When you cannot do (1) – and I know it’s hard for Portugal! – offset your CO2 emissions. I recommend the excellent Solar Aid, which buys solar lamps for Africans, fighting climate change & poverty at the same time: https://solar-aid.org/offset-your-carbon/
- Support small local businesses – restaurants, craft shops etc. – which help develop the local economy and generally have lower carbon emissions than large businesses or international chains.
- Travel less often and stay longer. This is not only good for our environment – it helps you to really understand the country you are visiting and visit less-known areas. Portugal is not just Lisbon and Porto plus the Algarve!
